Inspired by having seen and drawn hoopoes in Athens, this oil painting has two birds placed against an abstract landscape, a metaphor for their changing habitat. A thin line of gold leaf traces a path of hope, inviting the viewer to marvel at their presence and resilience.

My work combines abstraction and figuration to explore the fragile relationship between environment and biodiversity. The bird and fish are placed against an abstract seascape that becomes a metaphor of an uncertain environment. Diluted oil paint forms a background on which are built up areas of paint. Through this interplay, I aim to draw attention to the shifting balance of nature and for the viewer to marvel at the kingfisher and its prey.
