Artist statement:
This painting is an intuitive response to global warming, especially in its effects on trees and plants. Diluted oil paint forms a background on which are built up areas of paint. There is a thin line of gold leaf running from top to bottom: a symbol of hope and continuance. I want the viewer to share in the fragile beauty of nature and to care for it.

This painting is an intuitive response to global warming and increasing wildfires. There is a stark beauty and excitement to fire and its dangers. It seems abstract but has associations of fire, heat and smoke engulfing trees. Diluted oil paint forms a background on which are built up areas of paint. I want the viewer to share in the fragile beauty of nature and to care for it.

Diluted oil paint represents rays of energy, forming a skeleton on which are built up areas of paint. There is a thin line of gold leaf running into the centre: a symbol of spiritual energy and hope.

Layered oils of diluted and undiluted paint suggest the hidden forces beneath the earth, with patches of indigo hinting at fossil fuels left in the ground. The painting invites reflection on what lies beneath and the larger patterns shaping our world.
